The Department of English at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Koya University, organized a workshop titled "The Use of AI in Teaching English: Benefits and Challenges."
The workshop was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 (12 Sermawez 2724 in the Kurdish calendar), in the presence of the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Elham Majid Qadir and Asst. Prof. Dr. Aram Sami Qadir, alongside faculty members and students from Koya University. It addressed the use of artificial intelligence in the field of English language teaching and took place at the "Hakim Amir Hawizi" Hall in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The workshop consisted of two panels discussing various topics as follows:
Panel 1:
- "AI in Education and The Moral Compass" - Presented by Prof. Dr. Salah Mohammed Saleh.
- "Personalized Learning with AI: How AI Shapes Lessons to Individual Students" - Presented by Asst. Lecturer Honar Omar Mohammed Amin.
- "From Theory to Practice: Leveraging AI for Enhanced English Language Learning" - Presented by Asst. Lecturer Mohammed Abdulhamid Karim.
Panel 2:
- "The Role of AI in Promoting Academic Ignorance" - Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Shayma Fazel Hassan.
- "AI in Novel Classes: Pros and Cons" - Presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Safin Naaman Arif.
- "Enhancing English Poetry Learning with AI" - Presented by Hawjin Hamza Aziz.
The participants’ questions and feedback enriched the workshop discussions significantly. At the end of the event, certificates of participation were distributed to the presenters.

KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
