Koya University's Directorate of Health, Safety, and Environment hosts a workshop on healthy living and personal well-being from interdisciplinary perspectives.
On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the Directorate of Health, Safety, and Environment at Koya University organized a workshop entitled “Healthy Living and Personal Well-being from Interdisciplinary Perspectives.”
The event was attended by the president of Koya University, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, along with members of the University Council, faculty members, and students. The workshop aimed to explore the concept of healthy living and personal well-being through the lens of various scientific and academic disciplines.
The workshop commenced with the national anthem “Ey Reqîb” and a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs of Kurdistan.
Following this, Assistant Lecturer Dunya Ibrahim, Director of the Directorate of Health, Safety, and Environment, delivered an opening speech in which she outlined the objectives and significance of the workshop.
The workshop featured two thematic panels. The first panel, titled “A Healthy Day,” was moderated by Assistant Lecturer Soran Omar and included the following presentations:
● “The Impact of Lifestyle Changes on the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and Other Diseases,” prepared by Dr. Govand Saadaddin
● “The Impact of Digital Technology on Public Health and Social Well-being,” prepared by Assistant Professor Dr. Kochar Ali Mahmood.
The topic “A Healthy Lifestyle from the Perspective of Islam” was presented by Dr. Abdullah Othman Ali. The topic “The Selection of Processed Foods in Professions and Their Effects on Individual Health” was presented by Assistant Lecturer Dinya Ibrahim.
The second panel, titled “A Healthy Body,” was moderated by Assistant Lecturer Dinya Ibrahim and featured the following presentations:
The topic “Sports and Healthy Living” was presented by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Saber Mohammed Khalid. The topic “Mental Well-being” was presented by Assistant Lecturer Yousif Abdullah Qadir. The topic “Philosophy and Ethics: The Role of Ethics in Promoting a Healthier Lifestyle” presented by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Khalid Ismail Mustafa. The topic “Thaumetopoea Caterpillars and Human Health” was presented by Lecturer Muzaffar Kanabi Omar.
A discussion and Q&A session followed, providing an opportunity for participants to engage with the panelists and contribute their perspectives. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to the moderators and presenters

Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
