Koya University Honours Retired Lecturers and Staff in Special Ceremony

Koya University held a special ceremony to recognize and honour the dedicated service of its retired lecturers and staff.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Koya University organized a tribute event attended by the University President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, members of the University Council, and a number of retired faculty and staff members. The event was held to express appreciation for their years of commitment and service, during which certificates of appreciation and the Koya University Medal were presented.

In his opening remarks, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Sedeeq emphasized the essential role that retired faculty and staff have played in the growth and development of the university. He particularly highlighted the contributions of those who had served the institution since its formative years, acknowledging their instrumental role in shaping the university’s progress and reputation. He expressed deep gratitude for their dedication and long-standing efforts, extending his heartfelt wishes for their continued success and well-being.

Following the president’s remarks, Prof. Dr. Jawad Faqi Ali, a retired lecturer of Koya University, delivered a speech reflecting on his experiences and expressing appreciation for the recognition.

The final segment of the ceremony was devoted to the formal presentation of certificates of appreciation and the Koya University Medal to the honorees. In total, 46 lecturers and staff members were recognized upon their official retirement, having reached the legal age of service completion.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).

Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
