Closing Ceremony of "CoCreateMyCity" Program Held at Koya University

The "CoCreateMyCity" project, a joint initiative between Koya University's Career and Development Center (CDC) and Wedo Company, under the direct supervision of the Dutch Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region, announced and awarded student projects from Koya University in a ceremony.

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, in the presence of Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H. S. Zangana, Deputy Dutch Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Ms. Bertrighe Snoeier, Koya University Council members,Wedo Company representatives, government institution representatives from Koya city, professors and students of Koya University, the final ceremony of the "CoCreateMyCity" project was held in the presidency hall of Koya University.

The ceremony began with the national anthem "Ey Raqib" and standing in respect for the souls of Kurdish and Kurdistan martyrs.

In the next segment, Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H. S. Zangana delivered a speech, where he emphasized the importance and value that Koya University places on implementing joint supportive projects for developing and revealing students' benefits and abilities, particularly noting that this perspective aligns with the first pillar of Koya University's strategic plan, namely student success and their preparation for the job market. The university president also announced a training program in oil and gas for students, which was announced the previous day in Sulaymaniyah by Koya University and the President Jalal Talabani Foundation in coordination with the Southern Technical University in Basra.

Then Dr. Bayar Shahab, General Manager of Wedo Company, delivered remarks, followed by a speech from Deputy Dutch Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Ms. Bertrighe Snoeier.

In the following segment, students participating in the "CoCreateMyCity" project, consisting of six different groups, competed for first place through presenting their projects and evaluation by a special committee. The committee consisted of Nali Youssef (Economic and Political Officer at the Dutch Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region), Dr. Brwa Sardar from Koya University, Eng. Randy Qubad from R & S Design Company, and Eng. Randy Abdulrazaq from the Transportation Department, who evaluated the presented projects according to various criteria.

The successful student projects were as follows:

First Group: Students Sozi Abdulsatar Rasul, Fatima Idris, Muslih Abdulkarim, Abdulaziz Omar, and Sima Sopa presented the "Spirulina Natural Supplement" project.

Second Group: Students Zanyar Khalid, Dana Syamand, Kayjan Akram, Duyen Hewa, and Hawzhin Khalid presented the "Koya History Tourism" project.

Third Group: Students Rovin Talib, Skala Idris, and Lewan Adnan presented the "Smart Irrigation System & Agricultural Lab" project.

Fourth Group: Students Mohammed Kayfi, Helkawt Hassan, Nyan Masoud, Falak Mahmoud, Alan Hamadamin, and Karmand Tahir presented the "Wind Ride" project.

Fifth Group: Students Sara Rewar, Renas Fakhir, and Shawgar Tariq presented the "Vertical Gardening" project.

Sixth Group: Student Dilnya Johar presented the "Water Selling Kiosk" project.

After evaluating the projects, the jury selected the Second Group's project as the winning project of the "CoCreateMyCity" program at Koya University, and certificates were distributed to the groups in the final segment of the ceremony.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. It is on the foothills of a beautiful high mountain. Its campus has been carefully laid out to embrace the beautiful mountainous nature.

There are 4 Faculties and 2 Schools in KOU; Faculty of Engineering (FENG), Faculty of Science and Health (FSCH), Faculty of Education (FEDU), Faculty of Humanities and Social Silences (FHSS), Shcool of Physical Education (SPHE) and School of Medicine (SMED).

Also, there are two research centers; Genome Center and Malai Gawra Center. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of ArkansasKOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UKThe University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UKCihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).

Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
