Koya University Lecturer Delivers Specialized Seminar for Medical Institute Graduates on Patient Communication Skills
As part of its commitment to community outreach and medical personnel development, Koya University, in collaboration with Khaween Organization, organized a specialized scientific seminar on medical communication skills for new healthcare professionals.
Dr. Dawan Jamal Hawezi, Dean of the Faculty of General Medicine, delivered a seminar titled "Communication Skills in Dealing with Patients During Illness, Emergencies and Surgeries" on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Dr. Khalid Teaching Hospital.
The seminar targeted medical institute graduates and healthcare personnel, witnessing broad participation from medical specialists. It focused on developing essential skills required in daily medical practice.

The seminar addressed three vital aspects of medical work: effective communication techniques with patients during regular illness periods, methods for handling emergency and critical cases, and skills required in surgical environments and post-operative care.
Dr. Dawan emphasized during the seminar the importance of developing communication skills as an integral part of medical education, noting that healthcare quality is not limited to technical aspects alone, but extends to include the ability to interact positively with patients and their families.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
