Koya University and Ulster University Organize a Research Ethics Workshop in Erbil

In alignment with the "Research and Innovation" pillar of Koya University's strategic plan, a specialized workshop titled "Ethics in Research" was held in Erbil as part of the joint "EPP" project between Koya University and Ulster University.

The workshop commenced on Sunday, February 15, 2026, under the supervision of the University’s Research and Development Centers, involving a group of faculty members and researchers dedicated to advancing professional and ethical standards in their scientific endeavors.

Spanning three consecutive days, the workshop saw the participation of approximately 28 professors and researchers from various faculties and departments of Koya University. The sessions, presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sherko Kirmanj and Dr. Karwan Mustafa Saeed, facilitated in-depth discussions on issues related to research ethics and university research plans. 

The sessions focused on integrating ethical frameworks into the scientific process to ensure that academic outputs meet international benchmarks of integrity and excellence.

This initiative directly supports the second objective of the second pillar in Koya University’s Strategic Plan, which aims to "increase research opportunities for academic staff and students." It also falls under the fourth strategy of the university, which promotes organizing more local and international conferences and symposia to enhance the scientific proficiency of faculty members and develop their teaching and research competencies within a competitive academic landscape.

The workshop reflects the growing international partnership between Koya University and Ulster University through the "EPP" project, aiming to foster a sophisticated research environment. By emphasizing ethical compliance and sustainable research policies, the university seeks to empower its staff to produce innovative and responsible research that contributes to both local community development and the university's global academic standing.
