On 20 February 2023, the “Heritage in Danger” conference took place at Koya university.
This two-day (20-21 February) conference is jointly organized by the European Architectural History Network (EAHN) and Koya University to be one of the EAHN thematic conferences for the year 2023. The theme of this conference is (Heritage in Danger), it aims to explore various aspects of the threats that lead to heritage loss, along with the questions about how to save and protect cultural heritage through discussing and raising international awareness of the critical risks confronting cultural heritage and the devastating heritage loss around the world.
This conference is generously co-sponsored by Columbia University with support from the Carnegie Foundation, and Koya University.
Firstly, the conference has been registered by many academics inside and outside of Koya University to attend the conference.
Then, the conference was opened by their admired speeches, Koya University president, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Sddiq, and Dean of faculty of engineering Asst. Prof. Dr. Galawezh Bapir. Also the members of the scientific committee of the conference were involved and gave their speech.
Koya University president, Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Zangana said “We are pleased to hold this international conference titled “Heritage in Danger” today here at Koya University in partnership with the European Architectural History Network (EAHN) and Columbia University. Obviously, there are many reasons why archaeological and heritage sites are in danger across the world which can be war, natural disasters such as earthquakes, the reconstruction of old buildings either due to the need to improve the conditions offered by these buildings or to adapt them to new functions or simply due to to the lack of appreciation and care to these buildings, or leaving them unused for a prolonged period without any renovation.”
Secondly, the conference turned into the second section on the first day which was “paper sessions”. In these sections 8 papers were introduced by conference researchers.
Finally, as it has been planned on the first day of the International Conference (Heritage in Danger), Koya University organized a tour to some heritage places in Koya city for the foreign guests of the conference.
