On the fourth day of their visit to Baghdad, the Koya University delegation met with the Iraqi Central Government's Minister of Environment.
A delegation from Koya University in Baghdad, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, the university's president, paid a visit to the Iraqi Central Government's Ministry of Environment on Monday, March 4, 2024 and were welcomed by Dr. Nizar Amedi and a number of the ministry's advisors.
During the meeting that preceded the memorandum's signing, Koya University's president expressed his delight in signing the agreement and thanked the environment minister for giving them this chance to collaborate.
In his speech,the President provided an overview of Koya University's strategic Plan, standing both locally and internationally, and emphasized the significance of Green University, which serves as one of the keystones of the MoU between the two parties.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, pointing out that Koya University's definition of a "green university" goes beyond simply expanding and greening the campus, and mentioned: "For us, a green university means an environmentally friendly university, which aims to protect the university environment from pollution by taking scientific measures to reduce toxic gasses, especially those emitted from cars, by relying on environmentally friendly public transportation in buildings and by relying on renewable energy sources for lighting,".
Dr. Nizar Amedi, the Federal Government of Iraq's Minister of Environment, for his part, expressed gratitude for the Koya University delegation's visit, emphasized the university's significance for Koya and Kurdistan, and commended the president and team's efforts.
During his remarks, Dr. Nizar Amedi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to sign the MoU and stated that he and his ministry wish to support Koya University as it advances by encouraging collaboration in research and innovation.
It is worthwhile to mention that a delegation from Koya University, headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, will be visiting Basra and Baghdad for a series of meetings. The delegation includes Asst. Prof. Dr. Galawezh Bakr Bapir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Pakhshan Fahmi Farho, Director of relations directorate, and Asst. Lect. Muhammed Karim Saedgul, Director of Media Directorate.
