A Delegation from the US Consulate General in Erbil, headed by Mr. Doug Morrow, Head of Cultural, Educational, and Media Affairs, was given a warm welcome by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq, President of Koya University.
A delegation from the US Consulate General in Erbil paid a visit to Koya Universit today, Wednesday, March 13, 2024. The delegation was led by Mr. Doug Morrow, the Consulate's Head of Cultural, Educational, and Media Affairs was welcomed by Koya University President Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Haseeb Siddiq and vice presidents.
Koya University's President welcomed the US Consulate General team to Koya University and expressed his satisfaction with their visit at a meeting held during their visit to Koya.
During the speech, the President of Koya University discussed the university's standing both locally and internationally, emphasizing its significance to academic and scientific advancements.
Koya University President gave a brief overview of Koya University's five-year strategic plan, highlighting how it will cover all topics pertaining to students, research, internationalization, digitization, expanding resources, and a green university in two tiers.
According to Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq, “students' success and their preparation for the labor market is a key component of Koya University's strategic plan, which aims to provide graduates with job opportunities and help them adjust to the labor market through training.”
The Koya University President discussed the university's goal of becoming a "green university," or one that is ecologically sustainable in every way, and he also outlined the actions the university has taken to that purpose.
Head of Cultural, Educational, and Media Affairs at the US Consulate General in Erbil, Mr. Doug Morrow, for his part, expressed gratitude to the President for the warm welcome and stated his joy at visiting Koya University.
Mr. Doug Morrow stated that he would be happy to help coordinate efforts in pertinent areas, especially when it came to carrying out the objectives of the Strategic Plan's Student Success Pillar.
During the meeting, the Koya University President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq presented the strategic plan of Koya University to Mr. Doug Morrow who in turn presented the photography book "Our America" to the Koya University President.
It is worth mentioning that Prof. Dr. Hishyar Zaki, Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Rostam Salam Azeez, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Qareman Nader, Vice President for Student Affairs; Dr. Ahmed Abdulaziz, Director of Bahar English Language Center; Dr. Pakhshan Fahmi, Director of Relations Directorate; and Asst. Lect. Muhammed Karim Saedgul, Director of Media Directorate of Koya University, were present at the meeting.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
