On Sunday, April 21, 2024, the workshop was attended by the Vice President of the koya University for Scientific and postgraduate Affairs.Prof.Dr. Hishyar Zaki, the VicePresident of the University for Student Affairs, Asst.Prof.Dr. Qarman Nader Sheikh Bzaini, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof.Dr. Safeen Jalal, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Asst.Prof.Dr. Shwan Omar Khder, as well as professors and students of Koya University.
The workshop began with a welcoming speech by the head of the History Department, Prof.Dr. Hoshmand Ali. Koya University strategically plans and prioritizes "Community Service" in order to engage more actively and effectively with the community's needs. This workshop is part of a broader initiative aimed at sustainable environmental and ecological development, in alignment with the university's new vision for serving and contributing to the community.
The main panel of the workshop included five different topics that shed light on various aspects of issues related to the importance of history, antiquities, and culture in the development of tourism economy. The panel was lead by Dr. Darwan Abdulqadir Ahmed, and the topics were as follows:
Cultural and Civilizational Landmarks as Drivers for Tourism Development" was presented by Asst.Prof.Dr.Kamran Mohammed Jalal.
"Historical Landmarks in Kurdistan: Obstacles and Problems in the Field of Tourism, Illustrated by Shanadar Cave" was presented by Asst.Lect.Karwan Sherif Qadir.
"Selections from Cultural Landmarks in Koya" was presented by Mr. Hemin Naaman Kawes, Director of Koya Antiquities.
"The Tourism Sector in Koya District and Its Role in Regional Economy" was presented by Ismail Abdullah Hamza, Director of Tourism in Koya.
"Tourism Economy and Its Importance in the Koya Region" was presented by Asst.Lect.Sarkar Ahmed Abdullah from Koya Technical Institute.
Participants engaged in the workshop through questions and comments on the presented topics, and at the end of the workshop, participation certificates were distributed to the presenters.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
