Mr. Qubad Talabani said, "It is a great honor for me to be in Koya University to announce the Green University after 21 years of laying the foundation stone by Comrade Mam Jalal"

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq, Koya University President, and members of the university council welcomed Mr. Qubad Talabani, the deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, the minister of higher education and scientific research, upon their arrival.

Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Qubad Talabani first planted a tree in Koya University's Presidency Garden as a representation of the Green University.

The Deputy Prime Minister then visited Koya University's green and eco-friendly model, accompanied by the university's president and the minister of higher education and scientific research.

According to Mr. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of KRG, Koya, the surrounding area, Kurdistan, and Iraq would all be significantly impacted by the Green University's implementation.

“After just two days in Koya, I can already tell that there is much space for growth in the agricultural, and tourism sectors, as well as a wonderful chance for the region's economic and environmental recovery, particularly given the threat that climate change poses to the world, Iraq, Kurdistan, and the rest of the world,” said Mr. Qubad Talabani.

He also added, “Rather, I applauded the Koya University president and his team for their projects, which include water recovery, electric buses, clean energy use, and reducing the negative effects of cars, gas, and petrol on the surrounding community, the university, and the local population.”

"I personally congratulated Koya University and offered my support, the government, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research that we will assist them," stated Mr. Qubad Talabani, deputy prime minister of KRG.

According to Mr. Qubad Talabani “In an effort to reduce the damaging effects of vehicle traffic on the environment, Koya University has established the Green University Support Fund, I have pledged to Koya University to buy 12 electric buses for the Green University project "For the sake of Mam Jalal University, Koya University."
