The Departments of Medical Microbiology and Biology in collaboration with the Science and Health Research Center at Koya University held a training course entitled “Laboratory techniques for Scientific Research”. This training course shed the light on the existed useful devices and instruments in the center and their way of operation. So that the academic staff can get benefit from these instruments for their research. To achieve this, the tests were done in the center on a lab animal (Rat) from general anesthesia to cesarean section to start the rest of the tests.
The Dean of the FSCH, Asst. Prof. Dr. Taha Jalal Omar attended the ceremony of granting certificates to the trainees.

First day: 13/01/2022
An introduction about the center and laboratory techniques that can be used in research. The trainees (Dr. Hiwa Ramadhan Fatah, Dr. Safia Sabr Ibrahim Blbas, and Mr Hiwa Abdulrahman Ahmed) introduced their parts in the course.
Second Day: 14/02/2022
Animal house, laboratory animals, dissecting lab animals, explaining how organs and tissues will be used in different experiments. Tissue homogenization, purification of homogenized tissue.
Third Day: 15/02/2022
Tissue culture method. Types of growth media. How we can get tissue from human and lab animals for use in tissue culture.
Fourth Day: 16/02/2022
Protein, RNA, and DNA extraction and techniques used in their detection.
Fifth Day: 17/02/2022
Biochemistry analyzer, how the machine is working, and what types of biochemical tests can be used in this test.
Sixth day: 20/02/2022
The conclusion from the training course, answering questions and taking any suggestions that were given for the next training.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
