The Department of History at the Faculty of Education, Koya University, organized a workshop titled "Kurds in the Perspectives of Religious Groups."

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024 (13 Sermawez 2724 in the Kurdish calendar), the workshop was held in the presence of the Assistant to the University President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Hoshyar Zaki Hassan, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Safin Jalal, along with faculty members and students. The event took place in the Presidential Hall at Koya University.

The workshop began with the national anthem "Ey Reqîb," followed by a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs of Kurdistan.

This workshop aligns with the strategic vision of Koya University and its core initiative, "Serving the Community." It consisted of a single session moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamran Mohammed Jalal, featuring the following topics:

  1. "The Attitude of Christian Leaders Towards the Rulers of the Marwanid Principality," presented by Prof. Dr. Ako Burhan.
  2. "Kurds from the Perspective of Hanbali Scholars (Ibn Taymiyyah as an Example)," presented by Prof. Dr. Haidar Lashkri.
  3. "Kurds from the Perspective of Christian Historians," presented by Dr. Mahdi Saleh Farhan.
  4. "Kurds from the Shia Perspective," presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamran Aziz Abdullah.

The workshop included questions and feedback from the participants, enriching the discussions. At the end of the event, certificates of participation were distributed to the attendees.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).

Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
