Koya University Promotes Sustainability: Specialized Training Course on Home Solar Power Systems in Collaboration with VIM Foundation
The Department of Grants and Funds at the Deanship of Research and Development Centers at Koya University, in partnership with the VIM Foundation, organized a specialized training course on installing solar power systems for homes.
The workshop took place from October 19 to 27, 2025, at the Deanship of Research and Development Centers in the university. Sixteen 4th-year students from the Physics Department, Faculty of Science and Health, joined the training. This initiative aims to connect theoretical learning with practical experience and help students get the technical skills needed in the fast-growing clean energy field.
This course is aligned with Koya University's strategic goals, particularly the pillars related to "STUDENT SUCCESS AND EMPLOYABILITY," "RESEARCH AND INNOVATION," and the "GREEN UNIVERSITY." Through this training, the university reinforces its dedication to sustainability and to preparing qualified professionals who can contribute to the transition toward renewable energy. The collaboration with the VIM Foundation exemplifies an effective partnership between academia and the private sector in advancing sustainable development.
A specialized academic team delivered the training. Prof. Asst. Dr. Fahmi Fariq Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Haubash Hamdamin, Dr. Dara Khalid Khidhir, Asst. Lect. Shalawe Zirar Sideeq, and Asst. Lect. Shikar Dilshad Hameed. The training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of installing and maintaining residential solar systems, significantly enhancing students’ technical competence and improving their employability in the renewable energy sector at local and regional levels.

KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
