Koya University Student Wins First Place in Iraq Taekwondo Championship
"Akam Farman Ahmed," a first-year Software Engineering student at the Faculty of Engineering, Koya University, achieved a major sporting milestone by securing first place in Iraq for Taekwondo.
The final round of the Iraqi Taekwondo qualifiers took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the city of Kirkuk, serving as preparation for the upcoming Asian Championship in Mongolia.
This achievement reflects the core values of Koya University's Strategic Plan (2023-2027), specifically the first pillar: "Student Success." The university’s vision emphasizes that student success goes beyond academic excellence to include the development of personal talents and physical skills, empowering students to represent the university in national and international arenas.
The first pillar of Koya University’s strategy comprises goals aimed at fostering a holistic learning environment. Specifically, the second goal, "Enhancing Students' Personal and Technical Skills," works toward providing a supportive atmosphere where students can discover and excel in their individual capabilities both inside and outside the classroom. Akam Farman’s victory is a testament to this strategic direction as he prepares to showcase his talent at the Asian level.
