In alignment with its Strategic Plan (2023-2027) and its seventh pillar dedicated to "Green University," Koya University has launched a new waste segregation and recycling drive. Specialized recycling bins categorized for paper, plastic, and general waste have been installed throughout the entire University Presidency building.
Implementation Details and Waste Segregation
The implementation process was executed under the direct supervision of the Directorate of Health, Safety, and Environment at Koya University. Across the 39 offices within the Presidency building, each office has been equipped with two dedicated bins for paper and plastic waste, alongside standard general waste bins. Furthermore, larger waste sorting stations have been strategically placed along the building's corridors, clearly designated for paper, plastics, aluminum cans, and general waste.
The University President's Statement to the Press
In a statement delivered to various media outlets and news agencies, the President of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, described this step as a vital milestone. He reaffirmed the university's steadfast commitment to implementing all aspects of the "Green University" initiative under its strategic framework. Furthermore, he highly commended the collaborative efforts and collective steps taken by all departments and directorates across the campus to ensure the success of this environmental endeavor.
The Strategic Plan and Recycling Objectives
Koya University launched its comprehensive and community-responsive Strategic Plan in September 2023. The plan is structured around seven primary pillars; the seventh pillar, titled "Green University," focuses heavily on developing an eco-friendly campus. Specifically, the first goal of the second strategy under this pillar encourages waste reduction and advocates for a robust recycling culture by adopting systematic, modern waste separation programs.
