On Wednesday, 8/12/2021, the Department of Architectureal Engineering (DARE) at Koya University (KOU) held a national workshop entitled "Sustainable Building Strategie". The aim of this workshop is to present the approach to explore the passive and active strategies to increase thermal comfort and indoor air quality while minimizing energy consumption during the design or the renovation of the existing buildings.
This workshop was conducted by several members of the Sustainable Building Research Program (SBRP) in the research center of the Faculty of Engineering (FENG). This workshop was carried out by six researchers:
- Dr. Chro Ali
- Dr. Wezha Hawez
- Dr. Rasti Dlshad
- Mrs. Didar Salam
- Mr. Nawzad Kakamand
- Mr. Hawre Muhammad
The sustainable building/green building is an outcome of a design philosophy that focuses on increasing the efficiency of resources such as energy, water, and materials while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building's lifecycle. A building is designed to be ecologically correct by using resources efficiently, using internal recycling, renewable energy sources, recyclable or biodegradable construction materials, and blending in with the local environment, particularly in out-of-town locations.
The goal of the workshop is to increase the awarness towards decreasing the negative effects of the buildings on the environment and providing thermal comfort in the indoor environment in one hand, and minimizing energy consumption by taking advantage of renewable energy such as solar and wind energies on the other hand. We also try to decrease the amount of carbon dioxide in the indoor building environment which will certainly have a beneficial health effect on the users of the building. All of these are some strategies toward sustainable buildings.
The workshop was held in presence of the preasident of Koya University, Vice Presidents, Dean of the FENG and the Head of the Research Center at the FENG.
