Electricity is an essential part and a basic requirements of modern life. Electricity can be used for lighting, heating, cooling, operating appliances, computers, electronics, machinery, public transportation systems…. etcetera. With that to be mentioned is the Electrical Hazard and Protection methods, which otherwise can be fatal, for instance electrical shock and fire. Electrical shock occurs when the body becomes part of the electric circuit, however, the pathway through the body, the length of time of the exposure, the amount of current, and whether the skin is wet or dry can determine the severity and effects of an electrical shock.
In this training course, which was held by Dr. Askander Khalid kaka, who is a lecturer in the department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Health at Koya University for six days from 19th to 27th of April, 2022, the types of electricity, ways of producing, distributing, and controlling are explained theoretically and practically, and most importantly, different ways of protecting people from the hazards caused by electricity, including insulation, guarding, grounding, and electrical protective devices.
At the end of this training course, the Dean of FSCH ‘Asst. Prof. Dr. Taha Jalal Omar’ appreciated Dr. Askander’s hard work and sincerity to accomplish this course and raise the awareness about the fatality of electricity if precaution had not been taken.
