The 17th of December has been designated as the Flag day of the Kurdistan by the Regional Government calendar, and within this framework the Department of History, Faculty of Education, Koya University, in partnership with the Media Directorate of Koya University, conducted an activity to promote this day.
On Sunday, December 17, 2023, in the presence of the Vice President of Koya University for Student Affairs, Asst.Prof.Dr. Qarman Nadir Sheikh Bzeni and The Dean of the Faculty of Education of Prof.Dr. Safin Jalal, The Head of the History Department of the Asst. Prof.Dr. Hoshmand Ali Mahmood, the Director of the Media Directorate of Koya University. Asst.Lect. Mohammad Karim Saidgul, and a significant number of lecturer and students of the history department at the Faculty of Education, a joint activity to promote the Kurdistan Flag Day of the Koya University was organized by the History Department of and the Media Directorate of Koya University.
The beginning of activity began with the national anthem "Ay Raqib"
Then an article was presented by Asst.Prof.Dr. Kamaran Muhammad Jalal, a lecturer in the Department of History, on "The Flag in Ancient Times."
The Head of the History Department, Asst.Prof.Dr. Hoshmand Ali Mahmoud, in another section of the activity, presented an issue about the history of the flag of Kurdistan and the 17th of December as the flag day of Kurdistan, and at the same time explained the purpose of the activity to the audience.
The final section of the activity was the presentation of a poem by the young poet Daban Nasruddin Saleh called "I and the Flag."

Koya University, which has the Kurdistan flag in its logo, has always tried to celebrate national events.

KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
