Koya University held a memorial ceremony marking the 40th day since the passing of Dr. Qaraman Nader Sheikh Bazeni, Assistant Professor and Vice President for Student Affairs at Koya University, in honor of his memory and service.
On Sunday, November 3, 2024, the ceremony took place at the university's main hall, attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Koya University President, Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, government and party officials, members of the university council, academics, and students. The event was organized under the motto: "A Life of Service, A Time of Sacrifice and Nobility."
During the ceremony, Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq read a message from the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Qubad Talabani, and delivered a speech highlighting the late Dr. Qaraman’s exceptional character, saying:
"When we talk about Dr. Qaraman, we always remember his admirable qualities: his dedication, compassion, courage, and selflessness. He was a true symbol of altruism and sacrifice, not only in his profession but also in his aspirations for his community's future. As the Arabic saying goes, 'One cannot give what one does not possess.' Dr. Qaraman's noble values allowed him to offer so much to others."
He added:
"It is our collective duty as colleagues, friends, and students to continue his legacy by serving our community and achieving the goals he worked so hard for. As a tribute to his soul, I am pleased to announce that Koya University's 19th graduation class will be named after Dr. Qaraman Sheikh Bazeni."
The Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, also delivered a speech, praising the contributions of the late professor.
The event featured a short documentary film about Dr. Qaraman Sheikh Bazeni's life, followed by the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Culture to his family. Additionally, the family, represented by Mr. Alan Qaraman Sheikh Bazeni, gave a heartfelt speech.
The ceremony concluded with a photography exhibition showcasing moments from the late professor’s life.
