Koya University Participates in Ninth GreenMetric Country Coordinators Meeting in France

KOYA, Koya University served as Iraq's national coordinator in the ninth annual country coordinators meeting for the GreenMetric World University Rankings, participating virtually in the international conference held in Nice, France, on June 17, 2025.

Annual Assessment of Environmental Sustainability

The meeting, specifically designed for national coordinators of the GreenMetric rankings, is held annually to evaluate university activities in environmental and sustainability fields, develop strategies for future projects, exchange effective strategies, and enhance capabilities through workshops.

The conference aims to share best practices among universities and establish coordination between them to advance environmental sustainability in higher education institutions worldwide.

University Representation and Presentation

Dr. Ahmad Abdul Salam Maruf, head of Koya University's ranking office, represented the university in the online meeting and delivered a seminar to attendees. His presentation highlighted Koya University's main environmental and sustainability activities for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The activities were conducted within the framework of the "Green University Initiative," including the University Award for Sustainability and Environmental Protection. This award recognizes the best student projects related to environmental sustainability in each faculty, along with various student-led activities and projects that promote sustainability across the university and local community.

Strategic Green Campus Initiative

Koya University has currently adopted a comprehensive strategic plan as its work program and operational guidelines for effectively serving local and international communities. The institution is characterized as a dynamic and energetic organization that owns the "Green University Initiative," with the university's new vision and worldview operating within this framework.

It is noteworthy that the seventh strategic pillar of Koya University's strategic plan, titled "Building a Green University," falls under the framework of transforming Koya University's campus into a completely environmentally friendly campus.
