A delegation from Koya University, led by the university president, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, attended the COP29 conference in Azerbaijan.
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the delegation, which included Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq and Ms. Dunia Ibrahim Saleh from the University's Health and Environmental Administration, traveled to Azerbaijan to take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).
During the first three days of the conference, the delegation actively participated in various activities and meetings and engaged with representatives from countries and international organizations focusing on climate issues.
As part of the conference activities, the Koya University delegation visited the pavilions of the UK, China, UAE, Qatar, and Morocco. They also explored initiatives by UN-affiliated organizations such as the United Nations Development Program UNDP, the Climate Fund, the Environmental Defense Fund, and the Woodwell Climate Research Center.
During these engagements, the delegation presented Koya University's 2023-2027 strategic plan, the university’s vision on climate issues, and its "Green University" initiative, which was officially announced in May this year by Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani. This project received widespread recognition and was commended as the first of its kind in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq
