In the presence of the President of Koya University, The closing ceremony of the Work-based training program in the oil and industrial sector in Basra was held

The President of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, participated in the closing ceremony of the work-based training program in the oil and industrial sector hosted by the Southern Technical University in Basra.

The ceremony was held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the presence of Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana and Southern Technical University President Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdullah Ateeq, Iraqi Parliament member Ms. Kurdo Omar and Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Iraqi Federal Government Dr. Hamed Al-Mousawi, members of the Southern Technical University Council, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Koya University Asst. Prof. Dr. Glawezh Bakr Bapir and Director of Media at Koya University Asst. Lect. Muhammed Karim Saedgul, representatives of foreign and Iraqi oil companies, and students participating in the program.

During his speech at the ceremony, Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana expressed his pride in participating in the closing ceremony of the work-based training program in the oil and industrial sector, stating: "This course succeeded in bringing together 40 students from petroleum engineering and chemical engineering departments from Kurdistan Region universities in the heart of the oil and gas industry here in the beloved city of Basra, enabling them to share real joint experience with their colleagues at the Southern Technical University."

The President of Koya University continued his speech by extending gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qader, to the President of the Southern Technical University and all academic staff at that university for their support in making the program successful, expressing his happiness for developing bilateral relations between Koya University and the Southern Technical University, praising the efforts of President Jalal Talabani Foundation in supporting this program, which has a notable role and efforts at the national level to develop coordination between universities and build students' capacities for a better future.

It is worth noting that Koya University, in partnership with President Jalal Talabani Foundation and in coordination with the Southern Technical University directly supervised by the Continuing Education Center, sent on July 20, 2025, 36 of its students along with two students from Komar University and two students from Sulaimani Technical University to the Southern Technical University in Basra for 15 days to participate in the work-based training program in the oil and industrial sector and field visits to companies and oil fields under the supervision of professors from the chemical engineering and petroleum engineering departments.

During the training program period, students visited Zubair oil field, Chinese ZPEC company, American Schlumberger company, Al-Majal company, Scottish Wood Group company, Russian Lukoil company, Turkish iron and steel factory, Iraqi petrochemical industries, and North Rumaila oil fields.

This course falls within the framework of the first pillar of Koya University's strategic plan related to "STUDENT SUCCESS AND EMPLOYABILITY," specifically the second objective "Enhance Students' Soft and Technical Skills" within the second strategy "Offer technical and vocational education and training (TVET)."

This strategy aims to manage joint projects with local and international companies and organizations, and manage training programs so that students can obtain practical training and specialized professional experience in their field of study.

This training course represents an important step toward linking academic education with practical reality, providing real opportunities for students to acquire practical experience and technical skills required in the specialized job market in the oil and gas sector.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. It is on the foothills of a beautiful high mountain. Its campus has been carefully laid out to embrace the beautiful mountainous nature.

There are 4 Faculties and 2 Schools in KOU; Faculty of Engineering (FENG), Faculty of Science and Health (FSCH), Faculty of Education (FEDU), Faculty of Humanities and Social Silences (FHSS), Shcool of Physical Education (SPHE) and School of Medicine (SMED).

Also, there are two research centers; Genome Center and Malai Gawra Center. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of ArkansasKOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UKThe University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UKCihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).

Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
