Koya University Hosts Joint Training Course on "The Role of Health and Education in Building a Sustainable Society"
The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Science at Koya University, in collaboration with the Arab African Organization for Humanitarian Action and the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Science at the University of Babylon, organized a training course titled "The Role of Health and Education in Building a Sustainable Society." The course took place on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Faculty’s seminar hall, with the presence of Koya University’s Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hoshiar Zaki, the Dean of Physical Education at Babylon University, Prof. Dr. Rafid Abdul Amir Mubarak, and the Dean of Physical Education at Koya University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nabaz Abdullah Fattah.
The event commenced with the Iraqi National Anthem and "Ay Raqib," followed by a moment of silence for the martyrs and a recitation from the Holy Quran. Prof. Dr. Hoshiar Zaki delivered an opening speech welcoming the guests and highlighting the significance of such courses in alignment with Koya University’s Strategic Plan to foster knowledge exchange and academic development.
The training featured several specialized presentations by distinguished scholars. Prof. Dr. Haitham Mohammed Kadhim (University of Babylon) presented on "Effective Communication Competencies in the New Teaching Environment." This was followed by a joint session on "Cyberbullying and Psychological Stress on Society," presented by Prof. Dr. Muntaha Abdul Zahra (Mustansiriya University) and Prof. Dr. Madyan (University of Babylon). The final session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Nihad Ayoub Qadir (Koya University) on "Human Factors Engineering Towards Environmental Sustainability."
This training course reflects Koya University's commitment to its seven-pillar Strategic Plan, specifically the pillars of "Community Service" and "Internationalization and Global Standing." Through these partnerships with humanitarian organizations and fellow Iraqi universities, Koya University aims to actively contribute to building a sustainable society that integrates quality education with comprehensive health awareness.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
