Koya University and Taq Taq District Administration Discuss Field Coordination and Support for Affected Projects
The President of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, received the District Governor of Taq Taq, Mr. Aso Mustafa Abdullah, on Sunday, February 2, 2026. The meeting was attended by the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yadgar Abdullah Ali; the Vice President for Student Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Azhin Sabir Tahir; the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Galawizh Bakr Babir; the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Asst. Prof. Dr. Elham Majid Qader, The Dean of Faculty of Science and Health Asst. Prof. Dr. Kosrat Najad Kaka; as well as the Secretary of the University Council, Lect. Chia Jawhar, and the Director of Relations, Dr. Pakhshan Fahmi.
The meeting focused on establishing a direct coordination mechanism between the university and the Taq Taq district administration.
Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana highlighted the university's "Community Outreach" pillar within its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, emphasizing the university's role as an active partner to local administrative units.
He noted that the university has already begun practical engagement through field visits and workshops to identify and address community issues.
Regarding the response to recent environmental damage caused by snowstorms, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana announced that the university’s Community OutreachCommittee has been directed to coordinate support for affected areas, specifically in Chamchamal and the fish farms in Taq Taq.
He revealed that the University Council has decided to host a scientific workshop soon for affected fish farm owners in Taq Taq to provide technical expertise. Furthermore, the two parties discussed the administrative and logistical requirements for opening a Department of Agriculture in the district, following approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
For his part, the District Governor of Taq Taq expressed his gratitude for Koya University’s initiatives, reaffirming his full support for the university’s efforts within the district and ensuring all necessary facilities to facilitate shared projects for the public good.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
