In a collaborative effort to enhance community safety, the Sports Education Research Center—under the Deanship of Research and Development Centers at Koya University—in coordination with the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and the Iraqi Aquatics Federation, successfully conducted a comprehensive three-day training course on "Lifesaving and Water Rescue in Swimming Pools."
Strategic Objectives and Certification Levels
Held from June 21 to June 23, 2026, the course was aligned with Koya University's Strategic Plan, specifically advancing the core pillar of "Community Outreach." Seventeen male and female participants successfully completed the program, earning official proficiency certifications across levels "A, B, and C" after undergoing rigorous practical and theoretical training sessions regarding water safety and rescue protocols.
The Closing Ceremony and Certificate Distribution
The concluding ceremony featured the distribution of participation and training certificates to both coaches and trainees. The event was attended by the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education (Prof. Dr. Hoshiar Zaki), the Vice President for Student Affairs (Asst. Prof. Dr. Azheen Tahir Sabir), the Dean of the Deanship of Research and Development Centers (Asst. Prof. Dr. Halgurd Sarhang Maghdid), and the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (Prof. Dr. Nabaz Abdullah Fattah).
High-Level Organizing Committees and Trainers
The course was structured and delivered by prominent steering and executive committees, featuring a dedicated group of elite experts from both Koya University and the Iraqi Aquatics Federation who focused on equipping lifeguards with vital knowledge and immediate water rescue techniques; the committees consisted of Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Mohammed from the Iraqi Aquatics Federation, Dr. Lawest Qasim ظاهر (Zahir), Asst. Lect. Ahmed Jamal Fathullah, Prof. Dr. Rizgar Majid Khidr, Dr. Hawre Jaza Ali from the Iraqi Aquatics Federation, Asst. Lect. Mohammed Akram Karim from the Iraqi Aquatics Federation, Asst. Lect. Deman Dilshad, Asst. Lect. Hawkar Kakil Rashid, and Asst. Lect. Habiba Nihad Abdulwahid.
