To strengthen international scientific and technological partnerships and advance the implementation of Koya University's Strategic Plan, the President of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, led a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Erbil.

Strategic Roadmap and Green University Initiative

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the delegation was received by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Erbil, Mr. Liu Jun.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana provided an overview of Koya University's academic trajectory and global standing, detailing the core pillars of the Strategic Plan (2023–2027). He emphasized that the strategy aims to raise academic standards, foster impactful scientific research, reform administrative structures, and integrate modern technology across all university operations.

Furthermore, the President highlighted the executive steps of the "Green University Initiative," launched under the auspices of KRG Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Qubad Talabani. He explained that Koya University is actively transitioning toward eco-friendly transport, clean and renewable energy utilization, smart waste management, and environmental awareness to serve as a flagship model for sustainability.

Academic Synergies and "Smart Campus" Partnership with Huawei

Underscoring China’s role as a global scientific, technological, and industrial powerhouse, Prof. Dr. Zangana stressed the importance of establishing institutional links with Chinese universities and research centers. These synergies aim to facilitate academic exchange, joint research projects, and delegation visits for faculty members and students.

In this context, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana highlighted the ongoing collaborative project between Koya University and Huawei to develop a "Smart Campus." He noted that this partnership lays the foundation for a robust digital infrastructure, providing practical training for students in IT and networking while offering an advanced technological ecosystem for researchers.

Chinese Support and Delegation Members

The Chinese Consul General, Mr. Liu Jun, welcomed the delegation and commended Koya University’s strategic vision and sustainable initiatives. He reiterated his country’s readiness to facilitate academic partnerships and bolster technological cooperation. At the conclusion of the visit, Prof. Dr. Zangana presented an official copy of the Koya University Strategic Plan to the Consul General.
