Advancing the operational roadmap of the "Green University" initiative, the President of Koya University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Zangana (Sadiq), led a high-level university delegation on an official visit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Strategic Partnership and Water Harvesting Project
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the delegation was received by Ms. Begard Talabani, KRG Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana outlined Koya University's Strategic Plan, focusing on the "Green University Initiative" launched under the auspices of KRG Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Qubad Talabani. The President highlighted how the initiative positions Koya University as a flagship model for institutional sustainability and environmental protection.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana presented a project proposal for constructing ponds and small water-harvesting dams within the Koya University campus. He emphasized that this project will not only expand green coverage and support local agriculture, but will also provide significant eco-tourism value for both the university and the city of Koya.
Ministerial Commendation and Mutual Commitment
Minister Begard Talabani welcomed the delegation and commended Koya University's leadership for its academic and environmental advancements.
She underscored the importance of institutional synergies between academic centers and government ministries, noting that the "Green University" framework provides a robust foundation for joint efforts. Minister Talabani pledged full ministry support for Koya University's strategic initiatives, acknowledging the university's historic and regional importance. At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Zangana presented an official copy of the Strategic Plan (2023–2027) to the Minister.
