Serving as the official National Coordinator for the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in Iraq, Koya University participated in the 10th Annual International National Coordinators Meeting, hosted online from Birkenfeld, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Seminar Presentation and Academic Milestones

During the international meeting held on Monday, August 24, 2026—focused on evaluating environmental initiatives, formulating new sustainability strategies, and fostering institutional greening—Dr. Ahmed Abdulsalam Ma'roof, Head of the Rankings Unit at Koya University, delivered a keynote seminar presentation on behalf of the institution.

Dr. Ma'roof highlighted the concrete operational steps undertaken by Koya University during the 2025–2026 academic year under the framework of the "Green University Initiative." He specifically drew attention to the "Zanko Award for Environmental Protection and Sustainability," established to recognize and reward outstanding student-led environmental projects across various faculties. Furthermore, he detailed multi-faceted campus and student activities aimed at community engagement and promoting a healthy eco-system.

The "Green University Initiative," a fundamental pillar within Koya University’s Strategic Plan (2023–2027), was officially launched on May 16, 2024, under the auspices of KRG Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Qubad Talabani. Through its continuous implementation roadmap, Koya University aims to establish itself as a premier eco-friendly and sustainable higher education model in Iraq and the broader region.
