To secure international partnerships for the implementation of its "Green University" initiative and strengthen technical collaboration with the People's Republic of China, a senior delegation from Koya University, headed by University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, conducted an official visit to Beijing.
Diplomatic Reception at the Iraqi Embassy
On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the delegation visited the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Beijing, where they were warmly received by His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Berwari and the embassy's diplomatic corps.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana outlined the primary objectives of the Koya University Strategic Plan (2023–2027) and the environmental commitments underpinning the "Green University" initiative. He placed particular emphasis on the university's transition plan toward electric mobility and clean energy adoption, encompassing:
- Developing an integrated, zero-emission internal transport network on campus.
- Expanding solar and renewable energy infrastructure.
- Smart water management, resource conservation, and waste recycling systems.
- Extending campus afforestation and ecological green belts.
Leveraging Chinese Expertise in Sustainable Mobility
The President underscored that a primary objective of the mission is to benchmark China's advanced technological ecosystem in electric buses, modern e-mobility solutions, and smart transit infrastructure. The delegation is exploring strategic partnerships with leading Chinese enterprises and research entities to implement pilot sustainable transport systems at Koya University, creating an applied model for higher education institutions in the region.
Ambassador Ahmed Berwari commended Koya University’s forward-looking green roadmap, reiterating the Iraqi Embassy's full commitment to facilitating bilateral linkages, institutional networking, and coordination with prominent Chinese industrial and governmental bodies.
Concluding the meeting, Prof. Dr. Zangana expressed profound gratitude to Ambassador Berwari and the embassy staff for their hospitality and constructive engagement in advancing the mission's objectives.
