Conference Inauguration and Theme

To advance scientific research and reinforce academic collaboration, the 6th International Conference on Geotechnical Engineering – Iraq (6ICG-IRAQ 2026) officially commenced on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, hosted at the University of Baghdad for two consecutive days under the theme "Understanding the Earth, Sustaining the Future."

Institutional Synergy and Co-Organizers

The international conference was organized through collaborative academic partnerships among leading higher education institutions. The Faculty of Engineering at Koya University co-organized and supervised proceedings alongside the Iraqi Scientific Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (ISSMGE), Al-Khwarizmi College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Komar University of Science and Technology, and the Department of Reconstruction and Projects at the University of Baghdad Presidency.

Prominent Academic Engagement by Koya University

Beyond its role as a principal organizing partner, Koya University participated with a high-level academic delegation led by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Asst. Prof. Dr. Galawesh Bakr Bapir. Academic staff from the faculty actively enriched the conference proceedings by presenting four peer-reviewed research papers and moderating three specialized discussion panels.

Interdisciplinary Engineering Tracks

The conference examined applied research contributions across six strategic domains: Geotechnical Engineering, Structural and Civil Engineering, Sustainability and Renewable Energy Systems, Water Resources Management, Environmental Engineering and Climate Change Mitigation, and Sustainable Urban Planning and Architecture.

Practical Impact and Strategic Realization

The event provided a dedicated technical forum for engineering innovation, addressing critical ecological and infrastructural challenges through empirical solutions. This prominent international involvement directly operationalizes the core priorities of the Koya University Strategic Plan (2023–2027), specifically advancing "Research and Innovation" alongside "Community Outreach," reinforcing the university's leadership across regional engineering and scientific landscapes.
