Inauguration on the University’s 23rd Anniversary

Marking the 23rd anniversary of the founding of Koya University, the "Foundation Stone Park" was officially inaugurated as an eco-friendly campus space, established through a collaborative partnership between Koya University and the President Jalal Talabani Foundation.

Dignitaries and Official Attendance

Held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, the ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, His Excellency Qubad Talabani; Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Sabir, President of the President Jalal Talabani Foundation; Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana, President of Koya University; Judge Tariq Haidari, Mayor of Koya District; Ms. Kurdo Omer, Head of the PUK Koya Organization Center; alongside the University Council and senior academic directors.

Preserving Historical Heritage Through Green Infrastructure

The project was designed to honor the historical and institutional significance of the physical site where Koya University's original foundation stone was laid, transforming it into a modern, sustainable, and environmentally responsible green park. This development aligns with the university's flagship Green University Initiative and advances the ecological goals of the Koya University Strategic Plan (2023–2027) by enriching biodiversity and campus green spaces.

Address by the President of Koya University

Opening the ceremony, Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana delivered a keynote speech highlighting the profound historical symbolism of the site where late President Mam Jalal laid the university's cornerstone. He emphasized that converting the monument into an active green sanctuary reflects lasting fidelity to that visionary legacy. The President extended deep appreciation to Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani for his dedicated patronship and continuous support of higher education and Koya University.

Unveiling Ceremony and Documentary Exhibition

The ceremony concluded with the official unveiling of the restored foundation stone monument. Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the University President, and distinguished guests toured a documentary photo exhibition detailing the historical milestones of the foundation ceremony and the phased execution of the Foundation Stone Park project.
