On the occasion of its 19th anniversary, Koya University declared on Tuesday 10/11/2022 that it had received more than one million dollars as financial support (Grant).
In a special occasion in the Presidential Hall of Koya University, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Amanj Abdullah Sayeed, and a large number of government officials and University professors in the Koya district,
to obtain financial support (Grant) from The British Academy in partnership with Koya University and the British Ulster University.
The President of the University Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Sedeeq Zangana expressed his pleasure with this achievement for the University, as he indicated that this financial support amounted to (945,000) pounds funded by The British Academy.
This project is not limited to the scope of higher education as Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Sedeeq Zangana pointed out, but rather aims to create an impact on the entire educational process in the Kurdistan Region. He added that Koya University will be a significant research center in Iraq and the Middle East through this project.
Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Sedeeq Zangana emphasized that since the beginning of his assumption of the position of President of Koya University, he formed strategic plans for Koya University with his colleagues in the Higher Committee. He also said that the project includes three main aspects of our university's strategic plan project: community service, research, invention, and skills development. Earning financial support and global grants is one of the most essential goals of our university within the framework of the university's strategic plan
Eventually, he pointed out that the most gratifying thing, the announcement coincides with the 19th anniversary of the founding of Koya University. He added:
I warmly congratulate all the residents of Koya for this great achievement.
Later, the representative of The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Amanj Abdullah Saeed, gave a speech and during a speech on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research at Koya University, he stated that it is an honor for them to see that Kurdistan Universities are taking important steps in the field of developing international relations and said:
In particular, Koya University has a bright history with the efforts of the university presidency, dear teachers, and intelligent and capable students to move the university to a scientifically advanced level, and it is a pleasure to see that Koya University has always been the leading university in most national and international rankings.
Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haidar Lashkry Khidr, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Higher Education, said in his speech the importance of obtaining this financial support and research themes, particularly its impact on the country's education process.
Later, Dr. Sherko Kirmanj, who in partnership with Professor Kelsey Shanks, received this financial support, talked about the details of the project and the field of work and said:
The project is building A research unit to analyze the political economy in education in areas affected by conflict in the Middle East, which will be based at the Koya University, Faculty of Education
Dr. Sherko Kirmanj referred to the project's duties and the center that will be opened at Koya University and said:
The project's duties are to manage a series of regional workshops at Koya University for three years. presenting at least three-day teaching programs on the capabilities and needs of academic and scientific research. Holding several seminars on the issue of Education in the situation of countries in conflict with war.
Finally, Professor Kelsey Shanks expressed her pleasure and gratitude for the cooperation with Koya University in this field.

KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+. KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
