On Thursday, 23 February 2023 Koya University had a workshop in respect of International Mother Language Day, that was planned and managed by Kurdish Department at Faculty of Education. On Thursday, February 23, 2023, in the company of the dear president of Koya University; Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq, Vice president for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Rostam Salam Aziz, Vice president for Higher Education and Scientific Research; Asst. Prof. Dr. Haider Lashkri, Dean of the Faculty of Education Dr. Safin Jalal and a significant number of teachers and students of Koya University, to draw attention to the idea that language serves as a key tenet of national identity, the Department of Kurdish Language organized a workshop on International Mother language Day.
The national anthem "Ay Raqeeb" and a standing ovation to honor the spirits of the Kurdish martyrs started the workshop.
Initially, the speech by the Kurdish Language Department was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Darya Hawezi, Head of the Department of Kurdish Language.
Then, the President of Koya University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq delivered a speech on the occasion of International Mother language Day.
In his speech, the president of Koya University made the point that while it is essential that one be able to talk, write, and express oneself in one's mother language, it is far more crucial to preserve and standardize words, spelling, and language.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq emphasized that the university is the highest educational institution and that the responsibility for preserving culture and language falls primarily on those who will educate future generations of the country. He stated that:
“As the University Presidency, we support all action plans made to preserve and uphold the language, culture, and identity of our nation.”
The performance of a Kurdish song on the International Mother Language Day took place in the workshop's subsequent segment. After that, Asst. Prof. Dr Abdul-Wahid Idrees presided over the main panel, where four papers were given by the researchers as follows:
- Dr.Yara Qadr, Influence of language on the private relationships.
- Asst. Lecturer Qadr Fatah Ahmad, The position of education on Language.
- Asst. Prof Ismahil Abdulrahman Bazyar, Common language from the perspective of Iranian nationalism.
- Dr. Paiman Zorab, Educide: The genocide of education.
