The Iraqi Ministry of Environment team was met by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasib Siddiq, the Koya University’s president, today, Monday, April 10, 2023. They were accompanied by Dr. Kamran Ali Hassan, the ministry's deputy, and Mrs. Kurdo Omar, a member of the Council of Representatives of Iraq.
During the visit, a meeting was held in the university council room in the presence of the Vice president for Post Graduate affairs and Scientific Research Asst. Prof. Dr. Haidar Lashkry Khidr, Vice president for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Rostam Salam Azeez, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Asst. Prof. Dr. Galawezh Bakr Bapir, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Health Asst. Prof. Dr. Taha Jalal and Asst. Prof. Dr. Fakhri Hamad-Allah, Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering; Asst. Prof. Dr. Halgurd Sarhang, Lecturer in the Department of Programming Engineering, Director of University Communications Dr. Hawkar Bapir and Director of Media office Mr. Mohammed Karim Saydgul with the guests.
Mr. President of Koya University welcomed the visiting team at the opening of the meeting followed by providing a brief overview of Koya University and its projects, particularly those related to the environment.
Mr. . President of Koya University emphasized that one of the cornerstones of Koya University's strategic plan is "Green University," which contains a number of initiatives and goals that preserve the environment, rely on renewable energy sources, and expand the green space on campus. He said:
“Our four primary goals at the Green University Foundation contain roughly 12 implementation strategies, all of which fall under the broad heading of environmental protection and the elimination of harmful environmental effects. The management of water resources and the use of renewable energy are the two most crucial objectives.”
In another part of his statement, Dr. Mohammed Haseeb discussed previous conferences and workshops that Koya University held in these areas and emphasized the significance of conducting scientific research between Koya University researchers and researchers from other universities and research centers in collaboration with the Iraqi Ministry of Environment.
The deputy environment minister, dr. Kamran Ali Hassan, expressed his appreciation for the visit to Koya University and the ministry's willingness to work in conjunction with Koya University.
Ms. Kurdo Omar, a member of the Iraqi parliament, expressed her satisfaction at going to Koya University with the group from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and launching efforts to discover ways to coordinate so that both Koya University and Koya City would benefit.
Ms. Kurdo Omar emphasized that Koya has a crucial geographic position that makes it possible for it to benefit from environmental projects and that she will keep working to improve ties between Koya University and the relevant institutions of the central government in a way that is advantageous to both the university and the city of Koya.
Later, Asst. Prof. Dr. Fakhri Hamad-Allah and Asst. Prof. Dr. Halgurd Sarhang each addressed an explanation to the visiting committee on their projects related to the environment, renewable energy, and harmful gases.
The delegation of experts from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment then had a chance to share their opinions and suggestions on how to work together and earn the support of the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and relevant UN agencies.
Dr. Kamran Ali Hassan, the deputy minister of the environment, received the university shield from the president of Koya University at the ending of the official visit.
