Koya University's events for the Koya Festival, Kurdish attire from different periods in history was on display.

The Koya Festival was conducted on Monday, May 15, 2023, with the supervision of his highness Mr. Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, in the presence of Ms. Zhwan Sabir, Director of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government , Koya University President Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, foreign consuls, members of the Kurdistan and Iraqi parliaments, council members of the Koya University, administrative leaders, political party members, and social figures from Koya, as well as local and international guests, performed some sort of activities.

The Koya University’s activities featured a marathon, an exhibition of student’s work from its three faculties of (Engineering, Science & Health, and Education), final match in chess, ping pong, and futsal tournament, as well as a display of Kurdish attire from different periods in history.

 Meanwhile, Koya University's Faculty of Education's Department of History hosted a unique exhibition of Kurdish attire from different periods in history. The exhibition's purpose was to provide a brief overview of national culture, attempt to safeguard this identity, and to attract the new generation’s attention. 

The Department of History at Koya University planned the exhibition of Kurdish attire from many different ages to encompass various periods from ancient, medieval, and contemporary history.

Clothing has played a significant role throughout history as a daily necessity and also as a symbol and indicator of social status, cultural identity, fashion trends and distribution of clothing according to different historical times reflects the customs, beliefs and values of society and Kurdish clothes were recognized as colorful and wonderful designs.

Although Kurds have had their own clothes in different historical periods and also have their own melodies and literary and artistic texts, so the history department with the display of clothes of different historical periods broadcast Kurdish melodies of different historical periods. The melody is known worldwide and is an original Kurdish melody that originated in 1400 before broadcasting with the costumes of the medieval period. The melody of the Kurdish musician Zaryabi was Andalusian Kurdish. Art and music were influenced by the love story of Mam Zeen. Mostly the melody of Mam and Zeen was broadcast and the traditional clothes of Koya were displayed with an original Kurdish song specific to Koya called “In the spring field of Koya”. Bawaji Koya music was presented.
