A workshop was conducted by the Kurdish Language Department of Koya University's Faculty of Education in recognition of the launch of Kurdistan, the first Kurdish newspaper published by Miqdad Midhat Badrkhan.

On Monday April 22, 2024, on the 126th anniversary of the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper "Kurdistan" by "Miqdad Midhat Badrkhan" Department of Kurdish Language in the Faculty of Education at Koya University conducted "Kurdish Journalism and its Impact on Kurdish Language and Literature" workshop.

As a university founded in a very culturally diverse city, Koya University has worked in a variety of sectors to support both Kurdish and local society along with attempting to impact on an international and foreign scale.

The main panel of the workshop "Kurdish Journalism and its Impact on Kurdish Language and Literature" included several topics as follows:

- "Impact of Literature in Kurdish Magazines" was presented by Prof. Dr. Darya Jamal Hawez and Dr. Shaida Bassim Abdullah.

- "The Role of Gizng Magazine in Resistance Literature" was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Abdulwahid Idrees Shareef.

- "The Use of Institutional Metonomy in the Newspaper" was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Talar Sabah Omar.

- "Impact of Kurdistan Newspaper in Kurdish Journalism" was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Srusht Jawhar Hawez. 

The workshop was enhanced by the participants' queries and remarks as well as the direct, fact-based dialogues between the attendees and the subject matter professionals.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.

KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).

Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
