Koya University is located in the city of Koya (Koysinjaq), which is a 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. It is on the foothills of a beautiful high mountain. Its campus has been carefully laid out to embrace the beautiful mountainous nature.
Dr. Sahar Basil M. Al-Qaisi the assistant professor at the department of architectural engineering and the director of the Heritage Conservation Research Program (HCRP) at Koya University was invited to speak about documenting Koya Historic Town experience in the international symposium on (Urban Struggles in the Arab Region: Exchanging Experiences and Methodologies) that is organized by the Public Works Studio in Beirut.
Daban Q. Jaff, a Lecturer at the Department of English, Faculty of Education, Koya University introduces translating TED Talks to his class in two successive years. As part of class requirement, and as an attempt to promote the Kurdish language online presence, Daban Q. jaff introduces translating TED Talks to his class. TED platform is an international non-profit organization that each year gathers entrepreneurs and creative people around the world in two conferences at Vancouver in Canada and San Francisco in USA, in addition to that TED licenses independently and locally organized conferences that aim at spreading ideas worth to be shared.
The deirectorate of Quality Assurance at Koya University launched ver. 2.0 of the jindex application, a smart search engine web-application. This search engine helps the academics and researchers to search for any scientific journal indexes by one click. The search engine (jindex) is capable to search 7 databases belong to the Clarivate analytics cores database of the WOS (SCIE, SSCI, AHCI and ESCI), Scopus, Scimago and DOAJ. Dr. Salah I. Yahya, the director of Quality Assurance and Curriculum Development and a Professor at the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Koya University, participated in the online international sypmosium that hosted by Dijlah University College and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Baghdad, Iraq. Prof. Yahya presented the Koya University experience in the E-learning. The presentation is entitled: "Adoption and implementation of e-learning in universities, the Iraqi Experience - Koya University as a model."
Assistant Professor Dr. Taghreed Khaleefa Mohammed Ali at the Department of Architecture Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Koya University with a research group from other Iraqi University, published a research article entitled “Fresh and hardened properties of lightweight self-compacting concrete containing walnut shells as coarse aggregate” in the Journal of King Saud University – Engineering Sciences . The paper presents the mechanical properties of sustainable SCC made by using ground walnut shells. The Journal of King Saud University – Engineering Sciences is indexed by SCOPUS with Quartitle: Q1.
