The World Entrepreneurship Network, in collaboration with Koya University, Orange Corners, Events and Ceremonies division of Merck, organized the final day of World Entrepreneurship Week.

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, in the presence of the representative of Mr. Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Safeen Ghafoor, the President of Koya University Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq and General Director of Diwan of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Khattab Ahmad, administrative, party, and social figures of Koya city and members of the council of Koya University, representatives of local and international institutions, instructors and students of Koya University With the heading "Entrepreneurship Thrives here," the final World Entrepreneurship Week event in the Kurdistan Region took place in Koya University's Presidency Hall.

The event started with a moment of silence to honor the memory of the Kurdish martyrs, and after that, Ms. Galeen Majid, a representative of the Global Entrepreneurship Network of Iraq, gave a speech.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, President of Koya University, engaged in the following section.

In his remarks, Koya University's president expressed his gratitude for the occasion and emphasized the significance of entrepreneurship as a concern for the future of a large percentage of the population, particularly youth and students. The primary pillar of the Koya University’s Strategic Plan (2023-2027) is student success and their labor market readiness is our university's main focus.

"We are trying to connect our students with job opportunities in the real world and we firmly believe that learning should not be limited to classrooms and textbooks," Koya University’s President stated.

Subsequently, Dr. Khattab Ahmad, the General Director of Diwan of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government gave a speech, followed by Mr. Ansar Omar, who represented Orange Corners (OC) Erbil.

Subsequently, the primary panel discussion titled "The Role of Entrepreneurship in Universities" took place and was chaired by Dr. Ahmad Abdul-Azeez. Dr. Rebin Al-Sulefani, an expert in the field of entrepreneurship, and Asst presented a presentation on entrepreneurship. Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Siddiq, President of Koya University, Advisor of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government Dr. Khattab Ahmad.

The director of American Corner, Mr. Hawbir Hiwa, gave a presentation.

Then, a short movie about Koya University alumnus Mr. Sarhand Ali, who achieved success in entrepreneurship, was presented, and the audience was given an account of Ms. Shagul Khalid's journey to success in the entrepreneurial world.

Koya University (KOU) is located in the city of Koya (Koy Sanjaq) which is 1.0 hr drive to the East of the Kurdistan Region capital Erbil (Arbil, Hewlér) in Kurdistan Region of F.R. Iraq. It is on the foothills of beautiful high mountain. Its campus has been carefully laid out to embrace the beautiful mountainous nature. . KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+. KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021). Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
