Special Library Science Course Launches at Koya University’s Central Library
A special course in Library Science is being held at Koya University’s Central Library, aimed at clarifying topics related to cataloging and classification. The course is organized in coordination between Koya University and the Kurdistan Libraries Association.
On Sunday,June 22, 2025,a four-day training course officially began at Koya University. The event was held in the presence of the Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hshyar Zaki, the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Yadgar Abdullah Ali, the Director of the Central Library, Dr. Rozhgar Mohammed, along with staff from the Central Library.
Over the course of four days, the program focuses on key topics related to Library Science, with special emphasis on cataloging and classification. The sessions aim to provide in-depth clarification for participants, particularly staff working in the university’s libraries. The course is led by Lect. Salam Yaseen Haseeb and Lect. Sahdullah Nuri Pirdawd, both of whom hold master’s degrees in Library and Information Science.
Koya University has designated the fourth pillar of its strategic plan to the main goal of “Resource Development.” The first objective of this pillar focuses on “Enhancing Human Resources and the Efficiency of Administrative Staff.”

Moreover, at KOU there is an English Language Center (BELC) at KOU has been opened with the sponsorship of IREX and American embassy in Baghdad as well as with the support of Spring International Language Center of The University of Arkansas. KOU has two Scientific Journals; ARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University, which is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ESCI), and Koya University Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (KUJHSS). KOU is a proactive member of Erasmus/ Marhaba Project and Erasmus+.
KOU signed many Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with many International Universities, e.g., The University of Arkansas (June 2015). The Lulea University in Sweden (April 2014), The University of Nottingham in the UK, The University of Buckingham in the UK (Oct 2008), Belkin University in Turkey (Sep 2009) The University of Greenwich in the UK, Cihan University-Erbil (2021) and Tishk International University (2021).
Koya University is a memebr of The Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities.
