Koya University attended an “International Conference on Blue Peace in the Middle East” which was held on March 18-19, 2015 in Amman, Jordan. The conference was planned in cooperation with the WANA Institute under the patronage of HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, and with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
The International Conference under the Blue Peace Framework was planned with a focus on Exchange of Experiences for the Middle East. On the first day there waere detailed sessions on exchange of experiences with River Basin Organizations from Africa. This gave the participants from the Middle East a chance to learn about successful water cooperation in other river basins.
There was special discussion on two new Strategic Foresight Group reports: “The Hydro-Insecure – Crisis of Survival in the Middle East” and “Water and Violence – Crisis of Survival in the Middle East”. These reports examine the issue of water vulnerable communities and the risk between social unrest and water relationships. Given the current situation in the region a discussion on these subjects is extremely vital. The conference organisers encouraged Koya University to participate and offer ideas and solutions for the future as Koya University has been actively produced scholary work on International Natural Resouces Laws.
