Koya University, as a distinguished university, has joined the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) network

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) serves as a global hub for institutions of higher education that are committed to advancing the ideals of the United Nations across various fields, including sustainable development, knowledge sharing, cultural understanding, and academic preparedness. UNAI is one of those select initiatives and platforms within the academic community that actively engages over 1600 member institutions from 156 countries in collaborative efforts towards achieving common goals.

Koya University, situated in the Kurdistan Region, has recently become a member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) network. As a new participant in this platform, the university collaborates with other member institutions to promote global ideals such as peace, human rights, sustainable development, and the preservation of natural heritage.

Koya University's strategic plan for the next five years includes significant alignment with the goals of the United Nations Academic Impact Network, particularly in community service and environmental protection. As part of this initiative, Koya University collaborated with Basra University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and President Jalal Talabani's Foundation to host an international conference on waste management in the oil and gas industry this year. Additionally, the University of Mississippi has expressed its intention to collaborate on these initiatives

also announced the establishment of the Green University by Mr. Qubad Talabani, Vice-Chancellor of the Council of Ministers.

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is an initiative that involves higher education institutions collaborating with the United Nations to support its goals and principles. These include promoting and protecting human rights, enhancing access to education, and fostering conflict resolution and sustainability.

UNAI is dedicated to upholding and advancing ten core principles.

  1. Solving the Problems of Poverty – Commitment to addressing poverty issues through education.
  2. Capacity Building – Commitment to enhancing capacity building in higher education systems worldwide.
  3. Education for All - Commitment to providing educational opportunities to everyone regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity.
  4. Global Citizenship – Commitment to promoting global citizenship through education.
  5. Access to Higher Education - Commitment to ensuring educational opportunities for all individuals seeking the skills and knowledge required for higher education participation.
  6. Human Rights - Commitment to upholding human rights, including freedom of inquiry, freedom of opinion, and freedom of expression.
  7. Intercultural Dialogue – Commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue, understanding, and "bridging" differences through education.
  8. Peace and Conflict Resolution – Commitment to promoting a culture of peace and resolving conflicts peacefully through education.
  9. Sustainability – Commitment to advocating and advancing sustainability principles through education.
  10. United Nations Declaration – Commitment to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.
