Marking a major milestone in the operationalization of the Green University Initiative, Koya University has finalized an agreement with a specialized Chinese industrial manufacturing firm to procure 12 advanced electric buses, fully funded and supported by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, His Excellency Qubad Talabani.

Fulfilling the Deputy Prime Minister’s Pledge and Strategic Commitments

This achievement directly operationalizes the Koya University Strategic Plan (2023–2027) and advances the Green University Initiative, officially inaugurated on May 16, 2024, by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani. During the official launch, His Excellency affirmed complete governmental support for the university’s clean-energy transition, pledging to secure 12 electric buses for the campus. The formal agreement concluded in China stands as the practical fulfillment of that commitment, aligning state support with the university’s institutional vision.

Field Assessments and Technical Selection in China

Facilitated under the direct auspices and funding of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, the procurement agreement was concluded during an official delegation visit to the People's Republic of China, headed by Koya University President Prof. Dr. Mohammed H.S. Zangana. Following exhaustive field inspections and comprehensive technical evaluations of multiple premier enterprises specialized in e-mobility and green transit technologies, the designated Chinese manufacturer was selected to supply the custom fleet.

Campus as an Operational 'Living Laboratory' for Zero-Emission Transit

The 12 electric buses will serve as the cornerstone of Koya University's clean transportation infrastructure. The initiative aims to phase out conventional fossil fuel reliance, eliminate vehicular greenhouse emissions within the campus perimeter, and deliver sustainable, zero-emission transit for students, academic staff, administrative personnel, official guests, and Green Educational Tourism programs.

Clean transit represents a fundamental pillar of the Green University Initiative, operating concurrently with renewable energy integration, closed-loop water stewardship, resource recycling, extensive campus afforestation, environmental literacy, and sustainability-focused academic research. Through deploying this fleet, Koya University is translating sustainability from theory into practice, transforming the campus into an operational "Living Laboratory" where the community actively engages with clean technologies.

This milestone demonstrates Koya University’s ongoing dedication to implementing its Five-Year Strategic Plan, cementing its institutional leadership in environmental stewardship, climate action, and regional leadership toward a sustainable, green future.
