With the purpose of promoting education and contributing to the development of the schools and teachers’ professional development in Iraq and KRG, an international conference on education & teaching in K-12 schools (ICET) was organised by Stirling Schools, Cambridge University Press, City & Guilds, and GEMS. This year’s ICET theme was “Empowering Education & Classroom Experience in the Post-covid World.”

ICET, which continued for two days, 17th and 18th of May 2021, brought together teacher trainers, educational experts and community leaders from the national and the international community to discuss their perspectives on certain issues related to education.

Dr. Wali Hamad, the president of Koya University, represented the university and attended the ICET opening ceremony at the VIP Reception Venue in the Rotana Hotel/Erbil.

According to the latest report that released by Incite: WoS (Clarivate Analitics), Koya University showed more than 338 published research papers till 31st March 2021. Moreover, Koya University could collect more than 1,035 citations: 57.1% cited documents. The report shows (5) Highly Cited in Field and (‎1) Hot paper in Field.

Koya University, in cooperation with the Ulster University in Northern Ireland and the University of Sharjah in the UAE, received the annual grant of the British Academy, which is worth more than £400,000. British Academy is a registered charity in England and Wales (charity number 233176). It has one wholly-owned trading subsidiary (Clio Enterprises Limited, company number 07595846).

Under the umbrella of the UNDP/UN-Habitat joint action Headway Programme, Career Development Directorate at Koya University, with support of Rwanga Foundation in consortium with Erbil Governorate proposed the Entrepreneurship Development Programme, implemented the programme inside Koya University campus between 28. Oct. 2020 – 28. Feb. 2021, and provided financial support for 20 businesses.

Professor Salah I. Yahya from the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Koya University with a research group from University of Larestan and Kermanshah University of Technology published a research article entitled “Determination of biodiesel purity through feature mapping to the multi-dimensional space by the LS-SVM approach” in the Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry . Mr. Karzan Abdul Kareem Omar, a teaching staff at the Department of Chemestry, Faculty of Science and Health, Koya University, who is now pursueng his Ph.D. study at the University of Kurdistan, Sanandaj, Iran, published a research article in the Journal of Molecular Liquids. The journal is indexed by WoS (Clarivate Analytics with IF = 5.065. The paper which is entitled "Can isopiestic method predict the formation of deep eutectic solvents?" has been published on 8 March 2021.

On 9th march 2021 a group of Academic staff at the School of Medicines with their students at Koya university started a new project of “Covid-19 and it's relation to diabetes and hypertension.” The aim of the project is to raise awareness about diabetes, hypertension and the risks that related to Covid-19. The project give the people of Koya city a free of charge medical tests and basic checkup. The medical tests include; blood sugar test, blood pressure test, blood group test and BMI. The project on phase #1 targeted 350 people. A database for the people of phase #1 was collected for the research purpose.

Professor Salah I. Yahya from the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Koya University with a research group from Duy Tan University, Vietnam published a research article entitled “A Low-loss Four-Channel Microstrip Diplexer for Wideband Multi-Service Wireless Applications” in the AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications.

In the effort to increase the interest and promote research, on Thursday, the 3rd of March 2021, the pedagogy and academic development center (PADC) in collaboration with the chemistry department at Koya University (DCHM) have organized a day event for a poster presentation competition. The event was opened by prof. Dr. Wali Hamad, the president of Koya University, Dr. Haider Lashkry, the vice president for scientific & post graduate affairs, and Dr. Taha J. Omer, the dean of the faculty of science and health (FSCH).
